I am currently a student at the University of Georgia and next year I will begin my junior year at UGA. I have been a swimmer on the Smyrna Sharks since I was 9 years old and have come to love this team with my whole heart. I have been swimming year round since the age of 11, swam on the varsity swim team all four years at my high school, St. Pius X, and currently I still swim at the University of Georgia on the club team. I was the head coach of the Makos last year and am looking forward to another great season. Swimming has been such a big part of my life, and I am so excited that I get to continue helping swimmers achieve their goals, whether it is getting a best time, or fixing a stroke. I am thoroughly looking forward to another amazing season with the Smyrna Sharks!
Johnny Flynn - Hammerheads Head Coach
I am currently a rising junior at The University of Kentucky studying computer engineering. I have been swimming summer league since I was ten years old and it was the spark that lit my passion for the sport of swimming. From then on began swimming year round for several different club teams until I graduated high school. While in high school, I swam all four years and was a member of the 2014 state championship team. During my freshman year of college I trained with the varsity men's swim team and elected to retire to pursue my studies. I have had six years of previous coaching experience at Vinings Estates and am excited for the opportunity to be a coach for Smyrna. My main goal is to share my love of the sport with the kids in a effective and fun way. If it were not for summer league instilling the passion I have today, I can confidently say that I would have never met some of my closest friends and I would have missed out on some of my favorite lifelong memories. I would like to provide the opportunity for the kids to share those same experiences through summer league.Under Construction
Emily Lash - Rookie Head Coach
Emily Lash has been with the Smyrna Sharks since she was 5. She currently holds the record for longest time with the sharks entering her 21st year with the team. Her love and passion for the team has only grown over the years. She became the first Makos head coach and under her guidance, worked their way up the division ladder to Division Champs during her 5 years. After graduating from The University of Kentucky, she took a job with the Marriott Corporation thus limiting her coaching time. She trains and guides the Jr. Coaching staff to work with our youngest and future swim team members. Emily swam for The Lovett School, where she still holds a record. She maintains here Lifeguard certification and has been a USA coach with the Chastain Park Team. She is the head coach of the Advanced Group at FutureSwim, an off season swim group focusing on technique. Emily is one of our most experienced coaches and it all started as a Smyrna Shark.
Bruce Smith - Dive Team Head Coach
I am a retired United States Marine of 22 years. I will be beginning my freshman year at Georgia Gwinnett College this summer. I have been swimming since I can remember. I was once a diver/ swimmer and football player for both Stone Mountain High Schools varsity teams all four years. Due to a football accident my senior year my diving career was ended. I served 22 years in the United States Marine Corps and stayed in the water almost the entire time except when I was deployed to Kuwait and Iraq multiple times. During my time in the service I became a Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival and attended the Marine Corps Combatant Diver course. So, I pretty much stayed in the water. LOL. Currently, this is my daughter Mya's second year swimming for the Sharks and she was a diver last year. This is my first year coaching diving and I’m so pumped to be given this awesome opportunity to coach.I’m looking forward to teaching your sharks and also learning from them.
